Time really does help a person learn to forgive. They may never forget though. But it's starting over fresh for real that helps get past things. Relearning how to make each other happy, relearning how to trust fully. It may take weeks, months, or years but if he really truely loves you then he will come back. Just make sure if the bad stuff is really that bad, leave it in the past and start over.
I learned that the hard way. I may have lost my true love b/c I never really let us start over fresh and it caused me to give up. 4 years later....I wish it would have turned out differently b/c now someone else has his heart.

What were the reasons that you broke up? Have the circumstances changed? Has he changed? Have you changed? Generally, people break-up because the relationship isn't working on some or many levels. Sometimes after a relationship is over, fear sets in. The fear of being alone forever, of not finding anyone new that you can love. But there are multiple love opportunities for nearly every one. If you enter back into that relationship, likely it is just a matter of time before you find yourself on the doorstep of breaking up again! Then after it ends a 2nd time, you are really going to feel like you wasted a lot of time on this relationship.

Best thing to do, therefore, is move on and let this one go. But try to learn from it and choose more wisely next time. Generally, as we move through life, we make better choices. So it's likely that your next relationship will be an improvement of this previous one.
