One word NO! I used to work up to fairly recently as a service advisor in a Kia dealership and the cars are not good quality. They look good and that's about it. They have transmission, electrical, engine and suspension problems. The A/C lines rot out quickly. You could only do so much with customers complaints because Kia doesn't even back the cars like they say they do. I would give them a couple of more years and maybe their quality will improve. Sure Hyundai owns them and they are Korean as well and they share platform designs but Hyundai is keeping them cheap to make their cars look better.

If you want something Asian stick with Honda , Toyota or Subaru because they are better quality, more reliable, safer and good on gas.

Good is a relative term.

They have improved on their quality a lot compared to the cars they had out in the mid to late 1990s. They are part of Hyundai now and many of the company vehicles acutally use a Hyundai/Kia joint platform (same vehicle with slightly different look)

Their customer service and honoring their warranty has been excellent, but I've heard stories where they are now trying to wiggle out or not honor certain things. This has not been the case for us, but...

In terms of build quality, they are reasonably well built, but with a lot of excessive plastic, and interior materials feel like lower quality.

In terms of safety, they have one of the worst safety ratings.

In terms of fuel economy, it's reasonable, but not as good as a Toyota or Honda of similar size.

They depreciate extremely fast because their 10/100000 mile warranty is not transferable, so if you purchase used don't think you'll be getting the 10/100K. And if you purchase new, they do honor their warranty (including tow service if necessary), but you'll find the car has lost its value (depreciated) extremely fast.

Overall I could say it's a good car, but still could use quite a bit of improvement.

When I bought my first car it was a 2001 Kia Sephia.

The check engine light always blinked- especially when I turned on the A.C. But I took it to a garage and they couldnt find anything wrong with it. It was an okay car- until I wrecked it 2 winters ago.
