I think this is very interesting question and it does really make you think alot. I like mystery! I believe the reason is, because when case (problem) is solved you find out about the persons thoughts. Not just the characters in the story, but also the writers. I like studying about mental illnesses. One of my goals in life is to be a Therapist or Psychiatrist. It is interesting when you find out what others think about. What others want to do! What others dream! I wil say the other kinds of stories movies I like to watch are horrors, which are pretty similiar (but different). Obviously you have some what of the same kind of interests or you would not have asked this question.

I like stories of people who are on a spiritual/self discovery quest and come out of it at the end stronger, wiser, enlightened. It gives me inspiration. For example I really enjoyed "the alchemist" by Coelho.

i like psychological thrillers- i really feel that authors that come up with the most intriguing thrillers really bother to plan out the entire plot- the mystery. and of course, a great ending matters too. i totally hate being geared up for an anticlimax.

I like stories that put you on the edge of your chair. Then, when you put the book down, you feel yourself drifting back to your body. Some books like this:

Eragon
Harry Potter
