Well, drinking a lot of diet drinks isn't good esp diet soda/pop. There is a chemical in the drink that can cause brain tumors. I mean everything in moderation but I wouldn't have like 10 of these a day. And who knows how accurate it all is but I know with my baby I don't take chances..I'd rather sacrifice for a few months then have something be wrong with my baby.

Of course, its best to avoid, caffeine and artificial sweeteners, and god know what else they put in processed foods and beverages. But I tried to cut out the caffeine. For two weeks, I had the worst headache ever. And I very seldom get headaches and can usually message my neck to get rid of the ones I do get. These were horrible! on top of being nauseous too? huh uh. So I allowed myself 1/2 decaf java in the a.m. and 1 diet coke for lunch and juice or water for dinner. I figure, I'm not doing as much harm as someone who doesn't change their diet at all, is obese, still smokes and whatever else some ladies do during their pregnancies.

Diet soda and crystal light are good choices to drink during pregnancy. All the sugar in regular sodas and fruit juices can help add extra weight. And they also suggest not drinking too much caffiene. Of course too much of anything is not suggested so I would limit how much of it you do drink..Good luck

Don't stop completely but be very aware that any products containing aspartame is harmful to the baby. I believe that caffeine free cola's have aspartame in it so 1- 2 cans a day should be fine. I would not switch to crystal light, the main ingredient is aspartame. In general, stay away from aspartame, caffeine, alcohol and smoking.

My sister is a die-hard diet coke fan and when she was pregnant with both her children her dr and also her perinatologist told her she could drink caffiene free diet coke--but no more than 1 bottle a day. Don't know about the crystal light.

Sure. As long as you get your water in, there's no reason not to. I drank a 20-oz diet cola (with caffeine) every day when I was pg. Crystal Light is also fine to add to your water and flavored waters are fine as well. Unless you are sensitive to artificial sweeteners, you are doing great. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

My doctor told me it was all right to drink soda as long as I limited my intake to no more than 1 to 2 sodas a day. She also told me not to drink diet sodas because they contain aspartame in them which can be harmful to the baby.

Diet sodas are not good for the baby. Even sodas with caffeine in them are better than the diet ones. The aspartame is not good.

My OB told me to avoid caffeine all together AND to avoid diet drinks. I never asked why, but I think it had something to do with the artificial sweetener. Ask your Dr. for the best advice.
