Could it be that there is free extra memory with Avast?
Or a registry cleaner aspect?
Or some other logical reason which I do not understand?

Most likely you have a virus infection that is being stopped by the resident portions of avast. If you have run a full system scan then the problem has possibly been removed. If you have not run a full system scan, then the resident modules are probably keeping the offensive software from running, but the computer is still infected.

Gee, it could be any of the above. I suspect that it is a matter of some sort of either freed memory or correction of a bug in the software.
I hope the cure lasts. My laptop and regular computers take tea breaks on occasion, for no good reason.
Enough to make be go barking mad!
