Go back and re-read the chapter and your notes from class.
1. Imagine seeing something but not seeing everything. There are holes in the middle. Your mind fills in the blanks with what it believes SHOULD be there. People who suffer retinal detachment do this all of the time and most don't even realize it.
2. Preconceived ideas about the way things are or SHOULD be. You see things purely from your own vantage point and due to prior experience, you know how things should be even if you don't see everything. Your experience will determine how you perceive these situations. If you were to train long and hard for something, when the time arrives, you won't even have to 'think' about it, you'll just do it. But what if it's not exactly as you'd planned? Your interpretations could then be all wrong.
3. You sit at a desk, the teacher has a full head of hair. You stand on top of your desk, you see he's got a seriously nasty comb-over going on and that really, he's bald like a baby's bottom. Your frame of reference in this scenario was scewed because you were sitting. Your interpretation was incorrect because you couldn't see the top or back of his head. What you perceived, was a full head of hair.
