Since the original earth's crust no longer survives due to billions of years of erosion and volcanism we've had to turn to the study of meteorites that have fallen to the earth, specifically those containing carbon which can be dated. The results are always the same putting the Earth's age at about 4.5 billion years, give or take a few hundred million years.

Earth (IPA: /ˈəː(ɹ)θ/, often referred to as the Earth, Terra, the World or Planet Earth) is the third planet in the solar system in terms of distance from the Sun, and the fifth largest. It is also the largest of its planetary system's terrestrial planets, making it the largest solid body in the solar system, and it is the only place in the universe known to support life. It is also the densest planet in the solar system. The widely accepted scientific theory states that the Earth was formed around 4.57 billion years ago[G.B. Dalrymple, 1991, "The Age of the Earth", Stanford University Press, California, ISBN 0-8047-1569-6.] and its natural satellite, the Moon, was orbiting it shortly thereafter, around 4.53 billion years ago.

When I was a kid, I remember my great-grandma saying that she was there when her religious diety flipped the switched and created all that you see now. I reckon that she was about 14.53 billion years old. She was old, but damn could she bake some chocolate chip cookies.
