A good home remedy for a sore throat is tea, avoid spicy teas, with a very healthy dose of honey added. Make sure you add the tea before adding the honey or the honey will coat the tea and prevent it from mixing into the water. The honey in the tea will coat the sore spots and relieve the pain. Another option is cough drops, however they have the side effect of gradually losing effectiveness in my experience.

Where I live there are a lot of allergens in the air. It is probably that way everywhere. I have found that just waiting a day or two and whatever was irritating my throat goes away. But in the meantime you could gargle with warm salt water, or a solution of half water and half hydrogen peroxide. (do not swallow, burns stomach bad), or even gargle with Listerine.
I know a sore throat sucks. Good luck!
also the answer about organic licorice is an excellent idea

licorice. organic black licorice has an ingredient that suppresses bacterial growth and coats the throat. also, something i did a couple years back was to purchase a friedrich c90-A air purifier and i've not had any sickness or sore throats since. it is truly amazing. 5oo bucks, but well worth it....changed my sleep and my life. don't get the ionic breeze if you do research, it's a joke. good luck.
