Make it a unique day long experience rather than a gift, more memorable and shows you put in some effort. If on a budget rather than taking her to dinner at a medium cost resturant, make her dinner at home and then take her to an expensive resturant for desert (or say the Hilton for breakfast). To make it a day long event include a picnic in the park, a massage, a surprise lunch with her friends.

How old is she?
Perfume is always nice to get.
A Coach bag or wallet
an iPod if she doesn't already have one
A gift basket from the body shop or bath and body works, add some candles to it
A picture of you two, framed and engraved
an engraved charm on a necklace
a silver braclet
She will be happy with anything, as long as it comes from the heart!
Also, just a note - sounds like her bday is close to Christmas (mine is too) VERY IMPORTANT - DO NOT wrap her bday gift in Christmas paper or combine the two gifts or anything like that!! I don't give birthday gifts in July with Christmas paper, just because our birthdays are in December, it should be completely seperate from Christmas celebrations!

You can't go wrong with jewelry. Flowers are okay for birthday (if she likes flowers), but NOT for Christmas.

One of the best presents I was given was a visit to a day spa in my area... I got a massage and a great facial... maybe your girlfriend would like something like that.
