I have some clear silicone I purchased to do a construction job,I would like to know "what the difference between the two silicones is?"

As long as it is 100% silicone it should be fine. I used stuff made for windows and doors when I resealed my tank, I think it was made by GE. Some silicones contain other ingredients that can kill fish that is why most people say to only use aquatic silicone that you get at the petstore.

My husband used to work in pet shop and was always told to be on the safe side... never reseal a tank. If feasible purchase a new tank. The likelyhood of the tank leaking again is good. It happened to us once. We bought a 55 gallon tank from a friend at a yard sale. About a week later we had a huge mess. Found out later the tank had been resealed. Good Luck

As long as it is 100% silicone it will be fine in your tank. Make sure it cures completely before introducing fish.

many types of silicone contain anti fungus/mold chemicals (for bathrooms). Look for non toxic silicone (you wont pay any extra for the proper type)
