You don't have to convince her that you WANT an xbox or ps2. I'm sure she's aware that you WANT these things. I think you have to convince her that your grades and your social life will not suffer if you have them. If she said that she didn't care if you bought them yourself - and you are now prepared to buy them yourself - I don't see where the problem would be. Since the "many years" ago - have your grades have gone down and/or have you you've stopped helping around the house and/or have you stopped doing other extracirricular activities that are physical and good for you (i.e. basketball, karate)??? If so - it will be hard to convince your Mom - because clearly the computer games are not helping you to become an intelligent, well rounded, physically fit human being. If on the other hand, you have good grades, help around the house, and have stayed in shape while hanging out with the computer a good bit of the time - I think you have an argument - and you should use those points when advising her that your planning to buy your two new systems.

Good luck!!

okay you have to prove your worth to your mother.
Of course your mom doesn't want to pay for it, she has bills to pay, working, she knows you'll just zone out and waist time on it.
But its fun, and its really what a lot of teens do these days(it also depends on where you are in the world, as to what are the opportunities.
If you can pay for it yourself then do so, save up, and this is the kicker that you may not like.
Your mom might not be too happy, but tell her that you can pawn the SNES and the gameboy to make some little extra cash to go to the game system. Now your mom won't know how she will feel just yet, but you can get a good amount of $ for your SNES, especially if you have some rare old games.
Now xmas is coming, and you can tell her that you want one. She refuses to buy it, well just ask her along with the presents she is getting, to give you just some extra money. That way you can just have some more extra cash.
Xbox and Ps2 are everywhere. You can go to any pawn shop or walmart, whatever and buy a new or used system for around $100. This usually includes a controller. Good idea to buy another one just in case, and a memory card(Ps2).
Still wondering which one to get?
-Xbox is a good system, I always thought it was better then Ps2, but the games for it...aren't all that great.
-With the Xbox you can play CDs(music) and burn them. Only a few games can you listen to ur songs(like GTA).
-Xbox has this huge memory block, thus you keep saving games, and never run out of space(unlike Ps2).
-Xbox you can play movies, but you need a special piece and a remote that costs around $25.
-Playstation 2 is the opposite, it has many more games out there for it, specifically RPG games.
-Playstation 2 you need a memory card, this memory card only has x many spaces to save games, so after a while you have to delete some.
-Playstation 2 plays music, and movies, without any additional stuff(use the controller as the remote).
-Personally I'm a fan of playstation 2. I had ps2, then sold it to go Xbox, then I went back to Ps2, and now I got rid of it because my roommate has an Xbox. I miss my Ps2.
-With the xbox 360, not too many games are made anymore for the xbox. Any games out there that you really want to play will be on both systems.

ONE MORE THING: IMPORTANT!
If your mom keeps pressuring you to not by a system then you should wait until the holidays are over! Why? Well not only will the rush be gone, prices will drop, but your mom might have it planned as a present, or something along that line, and she just doesn't want you to ruin it.
So wait...especially if she makes a big deal out of it.

Tell her that now is the best time to buy a PS2 because the PS3 is coming out and they will soon stop making the PS2s. Plus, the PS2 is only $129.99 right now and you can get games for it for $10. Compare that to the PS3 that's $499 for the basic one and $599 for the premium one with games selling for $60. They stopped making the Xbox and now they have the Xbox 360 that sells for $299 for the basic one and $399 for the premium one with games selling for $60.
Time is running out, unless you buy a PS2 soon you won't be able to buy an affordable gaming system for a few years.

Just try and tell her it's a lot cheaper now and she can buy a used one for less than $100. If she keeps saying no, try to do things like clean your room, do more chores around the house...warm up to her and I'm sure she'll get it for you sooner or later. (Who knows, you might even get it for Christmas)

i know nothing about your mom but maybe if you tell your mom that if she'd buy you a new game console then you'd find a buyer of your old ones. just at least she knows you'd be willing to give up something in exchange.

just ask her nicely and if she says no then find out why she doesnt want you to have them, if she still says no then dont talk to her until she buys you one.
