i have no idea. i get that some people are against it for them selves and would never do it... but they should not care that some one else does it. i don't care if they want to have an unplanned unwanted baby, so they should stay out of other peoples wanting to abort unwanted unplanned babies. also you mention the issue of rape... did you know in some states those rapists have rights as fathers when they get out of prison.... (if they even go) and if they are found innocent then they definitely get rights. so that women is made a victim twice. having to send her child off with the man that raped her and letting him have a part of the child's life?! that's nuts. i don't think anyone raped or not but particularly raped women should have to give birth to a baby they do not want. it does not matter if only 1% of all abortions are from rapes.... does it mean who cares about that 1% of women do they and their live not count. i classify a violent rape as = to murder and in some countries they carry the same penalty as they should. also lots of people go on an on about how its used as birth control by irresponsible people. this is foolish. do any of you know any one who has had an abortion. i do i know several. in two cases they were very ill fetus where they would not have lived more than a year from heart, and brain defects. these women's health was not at risk but they did not want to give birth to babies that would spend their whole lives in hospitals and then die. the third had a condom break... (not everyone has easy access to plan b... it still costs money and in many places you still have to see a doctor... which cost $ up front). a fourth had the pill randomly fail on her. these were not irresponsible people. they were people in a sucky situation. to those that say its a sin... i do no believe in sin.... many people do not belive in sin... we don't have the same god as you. i should not have to live my life according to the preachings of your god. oh and for the lady saying did you know it kills a life... i think we have all seen the pictures of aborted futuses the pro-lifers like to parada around in such an insulting undignified manor... if its a life treat it with respect don't use it to push forth your relgiouse beliefs because that is insulting to life.

The majority of women who are raped will not get pregnant. (In fact with Plan B, morning after pill--works to prevent pregnancy when contraception was not used-- that amount should be even less. The fact remains that rape is not the main reason for abortions.

If one were to look at statistics about who is acutlly getting these abortions and why they are getting them you would find most are not women who have been raped or very young teens. (Canada has stats on these things, I am not sure if your country does)

If you want to argue that rape is the only just cause for abortion I think that is a faulty arguement. If abortion is murder and therefore wrong-- a rape won't change that. You would simply be punishing a baby for the crime of his/her father. So I guess if you want to know who she should have to carry that baby they would tell you because rape doesn't make murder ok.
So if you want to argue for abortion it should in a different manner.

The many peple who are against abortion believe it is wrong. They are entitled to their opinions just as much as those who are for it.

I suppose that you didn't really want an answer, you just wanted to throw out the overused excuse for keeping abortion legal for everyone to see and hopefully get a lot of angry responses.

I am sure you will, so good job!

In the future, if you do want to start angry replies, try something more controversial. "I don't care whether or not abortion is murder, I think it should remain legal. What do you think?" That is a better stand, and should get lots of angry replies.

Before someone says that those against abortion have never been in a bad situation are misinformed. I know from experience that not everyone faced with an unexpected pregnancy will chose to abort. I was a teen when I became pregnant with a child. I was kicked out of my home and I struggled to get by but I did. I won't get into all of the details but I faced many hardships through no fault of my own. It is possible. It has been done.(and not just by me) Don't tell me that people like me can't be against abortion. That is the same as me telling you I know how you feel.

I agree with purdy - these question on abortion get so many angry responses.... the thing is hardly any are used because of rape the rest are for different reason - some of which other people would never understand and some I hate to say it but do use it as birthcontrol.....

I am not against abortion at all but I don't think it is a birth control..

Because abortion is just like any other thing in this country that was developed with good intentions but ends up getting a bad wrap. Too many people abuse it or use it for something other than the positive. (ex: our welfare system)

If abortion was only used in situations that required it in order to save the mother's life then it would not get all the bad publicity that it does. But many people depend on it as a form of birth control or a safety net to cover their own lack of responsibility. By doing this, they've angered the masses and abortion is now seen as a horrible thing. When used for the right reason it could have been a good thing.

People against abortion have never been faced with a situation in which they would choose that option. They are not young girls still in highschool, or women hurt and trying to pull their lives together. They are usually older upper middle class conservative christians trying to push their agenda and values on others. Sadly since they are a huge voting pool, they are moderately successful.

And to other replies, the majority of anti-abortion agenda includes laws that forbid abortion unless the mothers life is in danger and includes no exceptions for rape or incest. For example the South Dakota ban on abortion recently failed for this reason.

This controversy won't end until some people realize that everyone has a choice, even if others disagree with their decision.

rape aside why would we want a women to have a child she doenst want. so that child can be neglected, abused, tossed out like the trash. i have 3 kids and the first one was tottaly unexpected. i knew i wouldnt hurt my child so abortion for me is out of the question but i also believe that we need to keep it legal. we have way to many children that are sitting in foster homes where they dont get the love that they need. so why force women to bring more unwanted children into the world. To all those out there who are against abortion i ask you have you adopted an unwanted child becuase if you havent then why are you trying to bring more children into this world that you dont have to take care off. i am a foster mother, with 3 kids of my own ans 2 adopted kids so i should say 5 kids of my own and 3 foster children i am also a socoial worker and you would never believe the pain that is inflicted on some of these children and when i see an abused child i just wonder what good making abortions illegal would do? wait i know it would make you feel better. right but what about hte child after it is born? then most of you dont care

Because the child is even more innocent than she is.

In most cases a person who was raped could have avoided the incident by not being in a compromising situation in the first place. Its just common sense not to go on a blind date, or out to a bar alone, or walk alone in the dark, or to otherwise be in a remote area with a man you dont know perfectly well.

Theres only a very VERY small amount of women who are attacked in the safety of their own homes, and of that small amount, an even smaller percentage become pregnant as a result, so using them as a defense for killing children is not relaly applicable.

On top of that, no matter where or how a woman was raped, the morning after pill is avaible to them, if they had to report the rape and get the pill withen 24 hours, we would have a better chance of documenting each offense and catching the men who commit these horrible acts. But as it is most women wait weeks, and even months if they ever even report the incident, and instead opt for abortions. This leave the man who attacked them with a free pass.

I dont see where we should allow the implantation and growth of a human life, just because a woman doesnt want to report a rape. Its unpleasant, frightning, and horrific to have to relive it, but the fear of an unwanted child should be motivation enough.

I think people like that should keep their opinions to themselves,it is a descision the pregnant woman should make on her own,no one should force on her their feelings about it,because it is not them.Making a child is a lot easier physically and emotionally than aborting it and if a mother chooses to do so,she should.
I think abortion is wrong in many circumstances but by rape,i support abortion.

I agree wholeheartedly with you.

Pregnancy and birth are really hard (I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant and its been really tough, the labour will be tougher!!!) and I would really resent being told that I "had" to carry a rapists baby and go through all the stress of giving birth and then giving the baby away "because there are people who want to adopt"!

What about the stress it causes the rape victim to have to go through all that?? No childless couple could be so selfish to expect her to do that for them. No woman's body is a baby machine.

Sadly most anti-abortionists are bigots who don't know what they are talking about.

To me, the emotional welfare of a scared, traumatised rape victim or pregnant teen is more important.

Like so may others have said already... the child is even more innocent than the mother. Abortion is murder. Pure and simple. Especially partial birth abortion. For anyone who has ever seen a baby (who hasn't?), how could you carry a child inside of you for several months, then go through the pain of child birth, only to have a dr grab your baby before it is fully delivered, stab a pair of scissors into it's skull, and vacuum it's brains out?! That is the most horrific, inhumane thing anyone could ever do. Whether that woman wants a baby or not, there are MILLIONS of women out there that would die to have one, but never will. Thanks to abortion, and psychos that throw their newborn babies into dumpsters. Why would you even ask a question like that?!?
