Because the USA is a storehouse of knowledge, because the USA universities are spending billions on University scholars doing research , the USA is a big POWER. This is at th collective country level.

At the individual level, power can be defined not in the same sense as a country`s power but power to handle a probem or situation. A knowledgeable person can find ways and means to get over a situation with that power.
