I don't think there is a workable plan for Iraq which involves a US presence there. As much as I hate to have to go this route, I think bringing Iraq's neighbors into the picture may be the only way to insure a unified Iraq. That would mean that in little time Iran would play the main role. At least Iran would have influence over the Shia insurgents there. Bringing them in would enable us to "redeploy" (leave).
If we remain, in addition to the losser we and the Iraqi people will continue to face, the country will in all probability divide into three sections. With one of those section being Kurdish it will increase tensions on the Northeastern border. turkey is very nervous about the idea of a Kurdish state since a portion of the land the Kurds occupy is Turkish.
All in all we have done exactly what George H Bush tried to avoid when he was president, make a terrible situation worse with an occupation. Saddam did what most successful dictators do, he killed those who showed signs of being able to lead. When we removed him it created a vacuum that nobody in Iraq will be able to fill in the near term.

Seal the borders. Bring in additional troops and understand that contrary to what the Iraqis said a year ago, Muslims DO indeed kill Muslims.
Sadly, until the world at large can convince the Sunnis, the Shiites, the Kurds, the extreme minority Christians and Jews to live at peace with one another, there will be no peace regardless of how much money or how many troops you send into the region. The answers then are a dictatorship, ruled with ruthless abdandon or genocide.
The question is, having myself studied the Qu'ran, when has the faith of Islam ever been a peace loving and accepting religion. Several months ago, the Pope was heavily slammed for having quoted the writings of a Bizzantene (?sp) prince from the 14th century. The Muslims of today, prooved both the prince and the Pope to be correct.
To have an immediate withdrawl of force now would only guarantee this to be a fiascal much like Vietnam. We would leave the job undone, the weak government in place currently would quickly collapse. Chaos would ensue. The region would become even less stable than it currently is and would become a major harbenger for terrorists. The U.S. REALLY would be the butthead of the world for having allowed all of this to happen and would be easy pickings for any terrorist who then cares to strike. All of this, simply because the U.N. was corrupt and unwilling to uphold the peace agreement as it'd been signed back after the first Gulf War. Too bad the news media has its own agenda and the American people can't see passed the ends of their noses.

Get our troops the hell out of there. We don't need more of our OWN people dying for NO reason at all.
