One snail shell just crushed as i tried to pick her up. I have not changed the water for a long time. Has it become acidic and effected the shell of the snails.???

Water does go acid as it ages (the nitrogen cycle itself contributes to this) and by all means letting the tank go neglected of water changes will not help matters, whether or not it's the cause or merely a contributer to the problem. Adding some calcium to the water is probably a good idea anyway, but your first priority should be small and frequent water changes to get your tank back to decent condition.

the ultimate thank you to tell if a snail is lifeless is to sniff it. i be attentive to that that sounds extraordinary, yet, believe me, you would be waiting to tell. A stay snail will only scent fishy and prefer tank water. A lifeless snail...ew. additionally, many snails have a sprint door that they close whilst they bypass interior, including secret snails. If the door is open or putting, or you are able to pull it open with a finger and the snail does not close it lower back up, then it somewhat is lifeless. A lifeless snail would fall limp out of its shell once you p.c.. it up, regardless of the undeniable fact that it won't pass slowly out because it somewhat is demise. ~

All tanks need water changes so start doing them. What have you been feeding the snails? They need food other then algae for the health of their shells. You can check out this site for more info on apple snails, http://www.applesnail.net/

sounds like your water is very soft and this is causing the shell to disolve. you can add a turtle calcium block (used to keep turtle shells from going soft) and this should help.

you need to change the water & make sure its around the same temperature because even if its slightly off it could put them in shock..if that doesn't work call your local pet shop.
