I am walking through our BX and through our Commissary this past week and I notice all this Christmas stuff. I see that people are already putting their Christmas decoartions up, and this started weeks before Halloween. Is Thanksgiving not as important as it use to be?? This is making me very sad becasue I love Turkey day...sitting at home watching the big game and stuffing your face...nothing better than that!

We're talking about the same thing in our office. Wal-mart and Starbucks and lots of other retailers are just skipping Thanksgiving this year to get a jump start on Christmas. Economists are saying that it's because spending is already much lower this year than last year for this time of year and consumer confidence is lower, mostly due to high energy costs. Even though gas prices are coming down now, people feel like they have less money to spend. That means holiday shoppers will get much bigger bargains much earlier this season, but it also means retailers are skipping Thanksgiving.

Oh a military wife huh? Bless you and your family this holiday season. My prayers are with you and yours.

Well I was actually born on Thanksgiving 11/25 morning exactly one month early from my due date 12/25 Christmas day. I just see it as the universes way of meeting me in the middle. LOL

We love Thanksgiving . Most food is ready the day before and finishing touches are done that morning, while we watch the parade on TV and eat waffles & bacon. Then around 10am- we get ready for guests and LUNCH, after that it is really Christmas first round (honestly) we make ready the entire house of that holiday. The guys watch football, the kids and us decorate the house and yard. Then we again eat, rest and get up before dawn and go shopping the day after. The men are home with the kids watching football or eating. The kids are playing and we "woman" folk are running the town having a party.

Since most of us were wise enough to buy the gifts already and have them hidden somewhere,so we shop for ourselves mostly-(since the guys never get what we want) and we can return those for more kids stuff later. I know that's not the nature of holiday- its just fun.

We do honor our holidays, we have our family and friends here for days at a time and it filled our home with love and happiness.

As Military families know "Best of all" every minute counts, so if it were up to me. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Valentines, Easter and Veterans day would be everyday.

Honor the ones you love by showering them with appreciation and personal attention. Children are only young once, seniors only have a few years left and the future is promised to no one.

Its really about celebrating love, life, happiness and the blessing that God has given us. No matter the "name of the holiday".

I agree with you. I like Thanksgiving more than Christmas and Halloween. Christmas has gotten so commercialized that it seems as though its meaning has gotten lost. Wal-Mart and Target are already having price wars on Merchandise to be sold during the holiday season! Give me Turkey Day and football with family any day.

The Jews are in simple terms great with it, rather. as long as you do no longer thoroughly overlook approximately Chanukka or thoroughly throw Christmas of their faces, they do no longer in all threat care. a minimum of maximum i've got are available in the process do no longer. yet yeah, I continuously be conscious that for the duration of u.s. (in Canada Thanksgiving is in early October, so as that would not take place that plenty, lol). Like your total Thanksgiving Day Parade (the single in ny) is all Christmas-y and stuff.

maybe because stores make more money at Christmas so they put up the decorations up early to get people in the mood. I also think it is dumb. I love turkey day.

Thanksgiving seems to be a mere adjunct to Christmas

Obviously it's in your heart! At least the commercialism of our society can't take that away.
