My little girl will be a year old on the 7th of December...she weighs 24.5 lbs. Currently she is still rear facing in her carseat, but she's so tall her legs are scrunched against the seat of the vehicle...she can't stretch her legs straight. Do you think it's ok to turn her around to face front in the backseat at this point?

I should hae stated that she's been out of her infant seat since 5 months. She's in a Britax Decathlon...good up to 65 lbs....
I just didn't know if it was ok to turn her around before her 1st birthday, which is in about 2 weeks....

I would go ahead and turn her around since she is so close to being one. I just bought a decathlon, and I absolutly love it. I have it rear facing, which is kind of bulky, but it looks so comfortable that I would like to sit in it. LOL. She should be fine foward facing since she is over 20 lbs.

It depends.... is it a convertible carseat? Because if it's an infant carseat, she's outgrown it, and you need a new one. Infant carseats are good up to about 22 to 23 lbs, or when the child reaches a year of age. Also, infant carseats are REAR-FACING ONLY. Unless the carseat is convertible, do NOT turn it around to face forward. (There will usually be pictures on the base of the seat depicting which way it should be faced)
What it sounds like, is you need to move up to a larger carseat. :o) Good luck!

Most carseats that are rear facing are made for children up to 22lbs. I would say you would be fine to turn your child around. I had to turn my then 10.5 month old around because I couldnt find a rear facing seat to fit him. H was over 23lbs at the time, and too big. He just wouldnt fit in his rear facing one.
And most police departments will install infant carseats for you if you are not sure you can do it right.

AAP Guidelines state until one year, so she should be ok - she is very close in age, and has already met the weight requirement...
I would definately ask my pediatrician though...
This is from their website: (http://www.aap.org/family/carseatguide.htm)
"Rear-facing seats
All infants should ride rear-facing until they have reached at least 1 year of age and weigh at least 20 pounds. That means that if your baby reaches 20 pounds before her first birthday, she should remain rear-facing until she turns 1. "

Yes, past time!! I think that she'll be fine. I turned my son around when he was 6 months old. Just make sure that you are properly restraining her and that the car seat is in correctly, and you should be good to go. If you still have issues, try going to your local fire department or police station. They will check to see if your carseat is in right and if you are putting the baby in correctly, and they do it for free!! (Just call first.)

If her legs are scrunch up then turn her around. That is doing more harm than good. This comes from my Pediatrician. Once the legs can touch the back seat it is time to turn them. Image if you are in wreck you could break or lose both of her legs.

I would think that it would be safer to turn her around, but if I were you I would call the police, the non emergency #, and ask them. Around here the police offer a small course for free and they should know what you should do. If they don't they can probably tell you where you can go to find out.
