Hi there,
The only other "Free" security software ather than Avast is AVG. However, I would strongly recommend avoiding this as it is currently only protecting against 90% of known viruses (letting ONE IN TEN THROUGH!) as opposed to the circa 99.3% protected by other paid-for programs. This also doesn't protect you against spyware, adware, keyloggers, rootkits, etc.
My recommendation would be Prevx1. This is an all-in-one solution that will protect you against every type of malicious file/program and has the strongest protection and removal capabilities of all security programs available today.
Download the Free Trial of Prevx1 which will scan your PC and remove this and any other infections free of charge:

Avest and AVG are the best two free anti virus software. Just make sure there updated. I hear good things about nod32 as well. Sometimes you have to manually remove viruses. I have used tons of different AV's out there and not all of them can clean a 100%. So I doubt you will find one that will. You can always try to boot in safemode(f8 before windows boots) to try and remove it with the AV but it might not work. If it dosen't work then google with the name of the virus and the word remove in the search box. You will find a site that will describe what steps you need to do to remove it.

AntiVir Personal Edition = Freeware = http://www.majorgeeks.com/download955.html or
BitDefender AvtiVirus - Free Edition = http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-14-en--BitDefender-8-Free-Edition.html
The most important thing to keep in mind, regardless of which anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware and firewall you use is to keep it UPDATED, just as it is important to make sure you have all windows critical and security updates + =
