Well, now this question has been solved months ago. Scientist have discovered that it was first EGG....because they have got the evidence that tells that millions of years ago, two birds of different species got evolved or mixed together, and so the egg produced was of new type and the bird that came out of it was came to be known as HEN........
So simple...........

Well whenever this question comes up, my answer is the egg. Here's how I see it. I am choosing to leave god out of the equation and am remaining scientific to answer this
Though there is no clear demarkation where the chicken evolved, let's just assume there are criterion to determine whether a creature is a chicken, or still lacks features that define it to be a chicken. A creature does not evolve in its lifetime. Evolution only takes place because the next generation turns out slightly different. A chicken can only come from a chicken egg, and there can be no change in that. Thus, whereas a non-chicken could have given birth to a chicken (ie laid a chicken egg), a non-chicken egg cannot hatch into a chicken. So, the egg must have come first. The creature that laid the egg was probably something very close to being a chicken but just falling short somehow.
Or of course, this could just be a trick question and the answer is that the egg came first cos you never said chicken egg, and dinosaur eggs were there long before chickens came along :D

Yeah this question is in there for the long period without the egg the hen cannot come without the hen the egg cannot come but taking science as the base that the hen must come first from someother creature like it said that man come from the MONKEY

Small things first. So it must be the egg. But there should have been a hen to lay the egg. So it must be the hen. But it is all the more better to believe that God created all things, living and nonliving in the Universe and be contented with it.

Egg. the worms that gave rise to fishes layed eggs. The fishes that gave rise to amphybia layed eggs. The amphybians that gave rise to reptiles layed eggs. The lizards that gave rise to birds layed eggs. The birds that gave rise to hens, layed eggs. Some bird a long time ago layed an egg from which hatched a weird kid, that was the first hen.
The real question would be: What came first, the egg or the wormlike unknown creature?

Definately NOT the hen, why?... simply there were eggs on this planet millions of years before hens evolved, the evolvement happened during the life of the object, and that eveolvement was then carried through to the next egg laid, so it is allways the eg that changes before the creature.

well think about it.. What does an egg need to grow and survive till hatching? A mother hen sits on it, nurtures it, she turns the eggs daily, warms them. and after its hatched, she teaches the chicks to eat. If there was no hen, that first egg wouldnt do anything but sit and rot.. So obviously the hen came first, as all adult creatures, hence Adam and Eve.. proves that God exists,, since baby creatures cant fend for themselves..
