I mean every religion believes their god is true and greatest but is that really so? Is there more than one god?

I expect a lot of fundamentalists shall jump up and say no, there is only one god, but the answer you're seeking is very much a question of faith and your definition of "god."

For each person, belief is different. While one person might be best served by the belief in one god, another may be best served by the belief in hundreds of gods. Each religion claims miracles to justify their beliefs and most claim to be the only true faith. Mystics, saviors, saints and bohisatvas exist in all religions and who is to deny any of them?

If god is as all-encompasing as the experiences of mystics and visionaries say that he/she/it is, then it seems illogical that the small and limited mind of man could encompass the scale, purpose and scope of divinity. Therefore, could any one faith would be enough? Perhaps, in the end, all paths are true and there is both one god and an infinity of gods.

There is just one just. God means supreme power. There cannot be 3-5 supreme powers. Various religions have different scriptures but all say that God is 1. Then why do we have so many images of god. Some people pray to god for money, some for power, some for wisdom and some for peace/ prosperity. Its our human mind which divides the sole power and likes to see God in different forms.. Love God sincerely and "He" will answre all your questions.

There is one God. He is called by many different names throughout the world. Different cultures have established their own path to God, interpret teachings in the way that seems right in their only culture.
He is still God! The Trinity, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Three in one, the Trinity.
I am Christian but I do believe there are many paths to God, the one God who created all!

Absolutely!!! It was something more formal, yet I used to talk to Him whatever the reason and because I kept forward to my own ambition and desires, when He gave me avertisements I saved none and did my way going into more and more trubles! Into an end, within a deep depresion, He saved my life (!!!) the very second I left away of all my deep desires... There, empty heart, I was filled with God's Light and Peace and Love - a complete New LIFE, a new body, a New Vision over the past and the future :) :) :) Yes, He is my Saviour!!!

Most religions consider God to be "more" than any single person could comprehend - and thus unviewable.

So consider for the moment that the essence of God might be like the light of the sun, and each of us views what we can through a stained glass window. We each see similar things, but we see different sections of the window (and the light reflected across the world) from our own viewpoint.

For the major religions, it seems silly to suggest that the God of Abraham is not also the God of Matthew and is not also the God of Mohammad. [hint - they all trace their religion to Abraham;-]

The thing that differs is that each thinks that their lineage and religious dogma is correct and irrefutable.

It's not that God is different, but that we are each unique and special children of God - with out own viewpoints (and stained glass windows)

I believe that there is a collective conscientiousness but we became and continue to grow more distant from the nature of the beast.

No matter how any try to define a "god" I believe that somehow there is a collective conscientiousness that ultimately acts as one especially toward relentless and careless infliction.

Regardless the spirit or substance of humanity is rarely in sync with evolving creations collective requirment, while we attempt to define what most defy.

No matter what any choose as a definition of god it pales in comparison yet we hold images, conceptions and creations highest.

There is one and just one GOD .

Everything we know , feel , touch , sense , and those which we do not know sense or understand , but which exists are all just part of the god .

Without exception of an atom , everything is just that .

It cannot be limited in a name , within a sector , or just into any scripture .

The good the bad the evil the spirit everything is just a part of the complete whole .

I am a HINDU BRAHMIN I will say that the god is only one and he lives everywhere he has no shape nothing its as to help the man to reach the god there is various shape given to god. All the river will drain into the sea in someway or the other like that all the religion will drain into the one person called the GREAT GOD. the GOD may be of any form MURUGAN, GANESH, JESUS, ALLHA etc its only remain that there is only one god who is apart from all types of religions, caste etc.

Let us assume there is God.
He must be omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent .etc..If that is the case there will be only one God.if there is any challenge it will be prevailed over.Else we cannot accept Him as God.
But we cannot see him to ascertain he is the only one.
Now,what are his functions.Of course creation. Can he go on only creating indefinitely. There is destiny which we see for ourselves.Being the only God it is his work too. Then there are the other portfolios:Protection, passing judgement, awarding benefits or punishment so on.....
Does He do all these single handedly.Yes,He has to......
Some stick rigidly to one God.Some have pity on Him and provide Him Assistants.
YET GOD CAN ONLY BE ONE.

You should ask this over in religion and then duck. If you really want to drive them into a frenzy suggest that some of them have the same god.
This is something you will have to decide for yourself. I can sit here and quote and give endless examples for or against and 10 people will agree or disagree with each one.
What gives you a sense of well being?
I have one, and tolerance for anyone to practice what fulfills them as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.
