I need suggestion to what brand and model to buy.
I have an old Pentium 4 Intel 845 chipset with GA-81DX motherboard.
The manual says that I need a card with AGP 4X (1.5V)

Any AGP 2X (3.3V) or AGP 4X only will burn the motherboard.

I am also told that some card are 2X/4X compatible and can be switched in either mode by adjusting the jumper.

Yes your right...They do make cards that can be switched however most of the time it's through software not jumpers... As for the 1.5v, I always thought the voltage in APG cards where standard.... If they needed more they would use a power cable from the powersupply...

Go in for a agp 4x card with atleast 128mb of RAM. I dont think it will cause any problems. For more information look up on the manufactures website.
