Well I don't think cable is really 100 Mbps mine says it is too. We have DSL at work and it is not as fast. The speed of DSL varies quite a bit depending on location.

Cable is faster. DSL is still better than dialup by a long way.
DSL works through your current phone lines. However, Cable works through the coaxial cable providing more speed. I don't think DSL could reach Cable as far as speed goes since Cable is provided by a better medium of coax cable.

Cable Modem
Cable modem service is a type of high-speed Internet access offered by local cable companies for consumers. Using the same coaxial cable used for TV signals, the speed of downloading data is typically many times faster than a 56K modem. Since cable TV was designed as a broadcast system, the cable is shared amongst many people in a small area, so download speeds can vary greatly throughout the day or week. Typically, upload speed is restricted to only 56Kbps, more than enough for normal, fast "surfing" of the Internet. Cable modem service is an "always-on" type of connection, which is especially vulnerable to hacker attacks. Users can prevent unauthorized access with a software firewall product.
DSL
DSL is a type of high-speed Internet access for consumers. DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line. This is a technology that allows for digital transmission over existing telephone lines. DSL service is typically many times faster than a 56K modem while allowing for regular phone/voice usage simultaneously on the same telephone line. Although DSL service does not exist in all areas, it is currently more available than cable modem service. DSL service is an "always-on" type of connection, which is especially vulnerable to hacker attacks. Users can prevent unauthorized access with a software firewall product.

With Cable, your speed will usually vary depending on how many people are on at any given time. The more that are on, the slower your connection. With DSL, it can be set to a speed that will not be shared from the box to your PC.

Cable is much faster in most cases, BUT DSL is slower, but tolerable, and 1/2 as expensive - as cheap as $14.95 compared to $60 depending on where you live. Its sort of like buying a Ferrari or a Ford - granted the Ferrari looks better and is faster, the speed limit is still 55. The Ford will get you there just fine.

I have 100mbps on 10 gig DSL. The "theoretical" problem with cable is that as more customers are added the bandwidth is used up and your connection speed slows down. You don't have as much propensity for that with fiber optics.

Cable is a lot fast, DSL is kind of fast and a lot cheaper. It just depends on how much you are willing to spend!

fiber optics to avoid the overload of customers on cable to slow you down.
