some of the A class bootleg now are so close to the real one that even some experts can't tell. or sometimes the case of the watch is real, but the caliber inside is fake.
if you are getting one on eBay, do lots and lots of research on the watch itself and the seller history. but the safest way is to buy the watch in person, at an authorized dealer. if you have to get it from eBay, try to find the ones close by to you, and have the guy go to the Rolex authorized dealer with you have have the watch examined.
but in the end, it's just so much easier and safer to get one at the authorized dealer.

apart from wot has already been said about the hand movement, all genuine rolex watches sold by approved dealers come with a certificate stating the registration number of that watch and the date it was registered. it will also have a serial number stamped on the inside wall casing, this can be checked at any approved dealer shop to confirm it is an authentic rolex. hope this helps.

With a genuine Rolex, the second hand sweeps round the face in one fluid motion. On a dodgy one, the second hand ticks just like on any other watch with a second hand.
On the rear of the watch will be a serial number, this is also replicated inside the mechanism housing.

The weight. If you've felt a real Rolex in the jewellers as soon as you pick up a fake you'll just know. I know this is not much help if you're buying over the internet but to be honest, I wouldn't risk it.

If you pay £100 for a Rolex watch off eBay....It is a fake. If you go to a Rolex watch dealer (Most city centres have them) And pay £10000 for a watch....It is real.

If its being sold on ebay it is 99.9% fake.......People buy Rolexes from reputable high class jewelers because of the service and after sales service that you need with a Rolex.....AVOID like the plague

I was told that a fake will have a smooth sweep of the second hand, where a genuine Rolex will 'tick' to the next place each second.
