Im 24 and I have a ton of friends that have moved out west to get on the money train. I am a professional with a marketing/business development background and am considering moving out west. Is it worth it? Do you really make that much more? What about housing costs?

It's REALLY difficult to find housing here. As mentioned above, the vacancy rent is extremely low, apartment buildings all have waitlists, and house prices are astronomical. There are great jobs to be have and you'll make great money, but you'll end up spending it all. I live in a small, second-floor studio apartment in the Northwest, and I end up paying about $710 per month in rent and utilities. I have to pay about another $50 per month for a parking spot, and a bus pass runs about $60 per month I think. Public transport isn't great here; infrastructure hasn't caught up with growth (and I'm not sure it's going to). Women are miscarrying in hospital waiting rooms because there is no space. Calgary's population is growing by 30,000 people every year. I think the city is eventually going to implode.

If you are happy with where you are and are making decent money my suggestion would be not to move. Yes, there is money to be made but the cost of living may offset the higher earnings. The vacancy rate in Calgary is about 0% and even if you could find a decent apartment expect to pay. To purchase a home starts in the $400,000 range and upwards and expect to be in a bidding war with others. If you're still in interested in the hassles of apartment hunting then by all means move because you'll likely have several job offers. Check out HRDC to find out what is available for jobs or the Calgary Herald or Calgary Sun. Both newspapers also have an extensive job listings. Hope this helps.

in case you dropped Calgary in direction of Texas, that they had look as though a team of left wing atheistic heathens. yet, in the context of considerable Canadian cities, they're incredibly conservative. there is an ingredient of religeous conservatism, yet no longer a huge one, and decrease than everywhere else in Canada. Theirs is greater of a purple neck variety of conservatism. yet i've got no longer been there in a whilst. issues would have replaced. They elected a individual who belongs to a seen minority as mayor, after all. in keeping with a speedy look at his internet site, he does not look like a suitable wing nutbar. He recognizes that poverty is a social problem. That counts as being a commie in the south, does not it? Alberta as a province is amazingly conservative. they have in effortless terms voted conservative for some years. Steve Dubya Harper is at the instant from Calgary, in spite of the undeniable fact that like a rather good variety of Calgarians, he's initially from Ontario. The Liberal and NDP political events extremely exist in Alberta.
