GirlinNB. i only asked was it a snobbery thing from the point of view that white gold is more expensive, i didnt say that was what i thought! the first part of the question is based on how it looks, and indisputably, white gold and silver look very similar so i just want to know why a person would go for the more expensive one

It wouldn't suprise me if you get a load of snotty guffaws in response to this question, but you have a point. Personally I prefer silver to gold, although the metal with a lesser value, for me it has a class that in some items gold cannot carry off. It's all down to your own opinion as to what appeals to you isn't it?

It could be a snobbery thing. Who knows. I think it's all personal preference. Isn't there a difference in the softness of the metal as well?

White gold looks different to silver, it looks more classy. Everyone buys white gold nowadays as it goes with other Jewerley better than gold does!

White gold is expensive, granted. But it's also much prettier and shinier than yellow. Has nothing to do with snobbery, or those of us with white gold could say the same of those who prefer yellow. It's a personal choice and none of anyone else's business.
And my new expensive diamond engagement ring I received a few months ago wouldn't look 1/2 as good if bought with yellow gold.
Don't stigmatize those of us who have our preferences in jewelry.

It is a snobbery thing because white gold is so much rarer than silver or yellow gold......the white gold mines are deeper and no one knows where they are.... duh...
No, really,
white gold is generally yellow gold mixed with a white metal such as silver and then usually given a rhodium ( hard white metal ) coating ... but a lot of people argue that there really are white gold mines....!
