Then you should see a doctor. You could have pulled a muscle or something like that. Or you have a respiratory infection or asthma. It depends exactly how and where it "hurts."

My immediate reaction is to say....yes....you should definately stop breathing! However, my real answer is this....if it hurts when you take a deep breath and you have been coughing alot lately or you hurt yourself somehow, then It could be a pulled muscle or a rib fracture....if you haven't hurt yourself, then it could be pleurisy (which can be very painful) .....if it is accompanied by any other symptoms, like numbness or tingling of your arms etc...call the doc right away....otherwise, if it persists for more than a few hours call the doc....good luck
