I disagree with it for chosing gender but completly agree with it for conceiving a child that is free from severe disabilities. There are lots of syndones or disabilites that only affect one gender if if both prospective parents carry this gene and are likely to have an affected child then it is logical to screen their embryos and put back those with are free of the defect. Why bring a child into this world if they are gonna be sure of an early death.

I personally think it's totally ridiculous, I think I can understand why these people may want to do it if they have children of all the same sex & really want one of opposite sex but I don't think I'd ever be tempted to opt for that. The case that you mentioned is a major reason why nobody should go for it as it clearly isn't 100% accurate & that woman then went on to have another son yes? Maybe that won't affect her love for that child but she was wishing for a girl all along. I don't agree with it!

Personally I think the sex of the baby should be left to chance. Before long they will be giving us the choice to decide if the colour of eyes and hair. I think its terrible. I think if you are having ivf to be able to conceive in the first place then why should it matter on what the babies sex is.

She didn't actually discard male embryos, as the only egg that fertilised was female, although she would have discarded them.
Personally, I would just be happy with a healthy child. I'd love one of each, but if that doesn't happen, I wouldn't do this. I felt sorry for her youngest boy who will probably spend his whole life thinking 'they would have loved me more if I was a girl'.

The only time i believe you should be a able to pick your baby's gender is if you know they will be carrying a "bad" gene that causes disabilities/abnormalities. If you know that another son will be highly likely to have something terribly wrong, but a girl will not carry this gene, then they should be allowed to select the gender. This way, certain disabilities/disorders/abnormalities should eventually be eradicated.

i think you are right and that we should stop interferrijng with things that should be left up to nature and genes. it is chance at which sex you get and parents should be happy with the baby they are given!
people who try and change this are foolish and selfish!
The lady who did change it will soon regret it a she will probably no longer be able to concieve let lone concieve a girl!
it is not right to change what should be non decideable by the parents of the child.

I wouldn't try that hard, the most important thing for me is having a healthy baby.
It is a difficult subject, I was just wondering why they got into such a trouble, surely they would have been able to adopt a girl.
