People vote or don’t vote for a number of reasons. Since I could first vote (1952) I have never missed an opportunity to vote (across three States), so obviously voting is important to me. However, I would not apply the same to everyone. Those who don’t vote simply make it easier for the rest of us to get our candidates and issues winning the vote.
However, voting should not be the only rule of being proactive. Do you (voters) know who is elected and appointed to positions in your own community. Are you familiar with the budgets for the various jurisdictions? Do you attend council meetings and county board of supervisor meetings? Do you attend the work sessions for the various issues?
In opinion, voting is only part of the citizen’s responsibilities. So if you are going to knock people for not voting, you should also knock voters who are not aware of what is going on in their own community.

Their reason for not voting is that they think their vote does not count. And it does. The last mid term elections is a good example. Some races were so close that each vote really was very important. I do think that people who do not vote do not have civil consciousness. If they do not vote, they should not complain. But if they don't want to vote, it is legal. If it is legitimate or not, it is a question of civic consciousness.

If you don't like the (mostly) two choices on the ballot, write in a name, if the ballot system allows it. Mickey Mouse gave the other candidates a run for their money in a local Mayor's race near here. If more people did that, the numbers might just catch the politicians' eyes. The message that it sends is "I care, but I don't want either of you." Much better than "I can't be bothered so I'll stay at home."

I dont vote, because I believe that you are choosing the lesser of 2 evils. No one in politics is worthy of being in any office, if there is ever an upstanding canidate for an election. I might vote, but until then no matter what I choose to vote for or against or lack thereof my taxes will still go up, the terrorists will still be there, and the job market and finances in this country will continue to get worse then better and all over again. I dont b*tch about anything I just live my life. The only thing I see myself doing is giving up a right. And as an American that is my choice, since we are free to choose.

I didn`t vote and you know why? I couldn`t tell what any of the candidates actually stood for. All I heard from any of them is BASHING the other candidate. They want us to just vote for them for what party they are and I`m not going to do that I am not for Republicans or Democrates etc... I`m for the AMERICAN people and what is best for them. If more people would be like that we might actually have a government that could get along and get things done.

i dont vote and its my decision. i dont say anything about the people who are voted in because i did nothing to put them there and nothing to keep them out. i dont know much about politics. i dont know the difference between a democrat and republican. i never found interest in it and never tried to. if ppl dont like me for not voting screw them. i have to right to vote or not to vote. and besides i dont feel like my one little vote would make much a difference because i was once told that it doesnt matter how many votes someone gets, the ppl higher up make the decision who actually wins. and i dont think its a waste of time. if i knew more and felt differently i would be out there voting. but frankly i dont feel that anyone i see running for anything going to do a good job. all i ever see is "the other person did bad things, vote for me"

I think if you dont know what your voting for, or your not well informed by someone else besides hollywood, then there is no problem if you dont vote.

I think people who do not vote should not complain. Voting is your ticket to the show. If you don't vote you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.
