I have already pre-purchased airline tickets to go on a short vacation somewhere and I recieved my summons to jury duty in the mail yesterday. It just so happens that it falls on the same day I will be out of state. Is this a legit reason not to go?

I believe you can postpone your jury duty, but you have to inform them you are doing so and you can't postpone indefinitely.
mcr angel got a pre emptive challenge in her case, she did not "get out of" jury duty, she served but the challenge got her out early, you can't take the chance that you are going to be immediatly impanelled and challenged by one of the lawyers

An easy way to get out of jury duty is to act like a racist, sexist, or religious fanatic. Or, tell the court that you know the defendant personally. If you can lie convincingly enough, they'll let you off and never ask you again.

Tell them it is Unconstitutional
Section 1 of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution states: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude,
except as punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States,
or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
...or act like a racist!

i wouls ask them and if they dont understand and let you off then say that you dont think you can be impartial because fo the nature of the case adn they dont like lack of clear objectivity so that may work as well or if you can get you rministerial papers in a hurry maybe off the interenet you can be excused (lil joke) all the best

Dunno if they will accept it or not. I got out of jury dute because of the fact that the trial was about a man who abused his son. I am so dead set against abuse. They were pretty much throwing me out the door.
