He is purported to throw:

a fastball (reached 100 during WBC, 1st Japanese pitcher to do so)
a two seam fastball (once called a forkball)
a curve
slider (reportedly three different ones)
a change up

He does not throw a "gyroball." He has said so himself in an interview with Yahoo.com's Jeff Passan.

Forget it!! Name one Japanese pitcher that has become a true super star in the majors. "O" And this guy is no different. Let the Sox spend money they don't have. He went for the money and the Sox were dumb enough to give it to him. I don't care if he has 10 pitches, Boston will still be looking up to the Yankees by seasons end. They hate and fear the Yankees so much that they will do just about anything to get even. It's always personal with Boston.
