I think Martha Stewart said hers was over 20 years old and she has never washed it- just aired it out!

Mine only lasted for 4 years and it wasn't cheap when I bought it. I washed it about once a month on the hand wash cycle. After about three years, the squares started coming out and this made the down move to the ends. This made the middle of the blanket very cold. Needless to say, we just bought a new comforter that is not down.
Another thing you need to watch is that not all down comforters are machine washable, mine was.

Stop washing it in a washing machine. If it's possible have it dry cleaned. If not, use a gentle cycle and something like "Downy" to wash it. It does not have to be washed everyday, it won't last. I've known some, washed and taken care of, to be over 100 years old, that's right.

I think for 5-10 years...we've had one of our comforters for 6yrs now. And it's still okay. Maybe a little flatter than the day we bought it but still not bad.
