the concept of Guru is ridiculous - but it does help snare some unwary and inexperienced folks into paying huge sums for knowledge that is mostly out there to find for free with a bit of effort.
Anyone who styles himself (and 99% are 'Him') is well worth steering clear of.
Having said that the most down to Earth source of advice and insight (including the provison of a wealth of free info) is probably someone like Ken Evoy - (who'd never call homself a Guru BTW).
He has always been 'outside' the crowd that is now clamoring (with increasing intensity) for your 'web education' investment bucks - yet the approach he promulgates has proven time and again to be make the 'web very useable' by non-techie types (as well as insightful techies too - to be fair!).
But those with a good source of knowlege about the web tend to specialize in 'an area' - adwords, adsense, traffic, analysis, keywords, SEO, list building, blogs, (and latterly) online video publishing...etc, etc...
It is pretty easy to spend too much time surrounded by a growing pile of 'How to' material without actually achieving anything!

Evoy and Jakob Nielsen are well recognised, but I would speak to an agency called Cimex, guess who I work for!
