The right to freedom to practice your religion. You can practice any religion you like, as long as you are not a Muslim. (Recent news article showed that a person suspected of terrorism was set a parole so that he could not travel more than 1 mile from home - therefore could not go to mosque).

A right to speedy trial by jury and to face your accusers. (How many terror suspects do the American currently have in a certain prison, who have not - so far - been allowed the usual legal right that everybody else takes for granted?)

Who recons you haven't given up any rights or freedoms? How long before another, equally vallid reason is found to segregate another part of our society? How long before we can no longer enjoy the freedoms and rights that we are supposed to fight for?

We should not ever give up one single inch of our freedoms. These freedoms have been hard won in war and revolution. Government's who claim they are taking away a small amount of freedom just so they can combat terrorism are liars. They are control freaks who want to control every aspect of our lives.

Long live the Revolution - at least the Americans will not give up any of their freedoms. They have a written constitution - The Constitution and a Bill of Rights which gives every US citizen the same and equal rights before the law. Changing the Constitution to effectively remove freedoms = revolution.

Unfortunately I am British and we do not have the same freedom and liberty as that which are enjoyed by the Americans.

Politicians seek always to change history. In Shakespeare's play, Richard III, we are told that the king said, "A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse." In fact the king said no such thing. What Richard III said was, "I am the rightful king of England. I will not budge a foot nor yet give one inch."

God save the King.

Our founded fathers came here to get away from England. We wanted freedom from the king. We have been abusing this freedom issue for years now. We have the freedom of speech, That's abused all the time! I just say a bumpersticker that had the F word on it, so did my son. I guess he has the right to have that word on his car and the right to say that word but I have the right not to hear it and not to have my son exposed to it at a young age. Great speechers like Martin Luther King used his freedom of speech to the best of his ability. He didn't have to swear to make himself heard, he didn't have to use racial slurs to have himself heard. Freedom of speech means we can speak our mind but it should be done with dignity and mannerism. Calling the president the devil isn't well spoken nor mature. People abuse this freedom all too often.

Freedom of the press is being abused the same way. News journalism is to be unbiase. They are not to take sides. If you want to take a side, start your own talk show and let that be well known of your agenda. But public news, local and national, are to be just reporting the news as it is without name calling, labeling, without an agenda, or ridiculing. Keep your commentaries for the letter to the editor section.

America is great as that we have so many freedoms that other countries don't have. Women here have lots of opportunities that others don't have. They can wear whatever they want, get any education they want, get jobs they want, have a family when they want. etc. But these freedom again are being abused. Clothing - I'm glad we don't have to cover our faces and arms and legs but we can wear thongs and bras for all to see, we can have our breast hanging out for all to see, we can wear short, tight shorts with the word "b*tch" or "sexy" on our butt, we can wear makeup and jewelry, have any body part pierced. Women that dress a certain way attack certain men then they complain that they are not treated fairly. The women in the Middle East were forced to cover up, not because they are ugly, but because they are beautiful and the men can't resist their beauty. The women were forced to cover up to protect themselves from preverts and so the men could concentrate on their work and stop oogling the women. Here, we can dress any way we want and are angry when a man doesn't give us attention and angry when a man does give us the wrong attention. Women have the right to kill their unborn children for whatever reason they want. Not just for medical, health issues or because their father raped them. But just because they got drunk, slept with a guy and can't afford a child. Just because their pregnancy was a mistake and the condom broke. We have the right to kill life before it even has the chance to start it's life.

SO-- we have lots of freedom but we abuse them constantly. If our founding father were resurrected and saw what their country of freedom has turned into, what would they say?

Any rights which impose on someone else's freedom.

EDIT:

To the Americans who insist they have total freedom- What about your right to murder someone? Your right to take class A drugs? Your right to solicit sex?

Americans get the message hammered in from a young age that they are totally 100% free, but you're only accepting the definition as you've given- America has certain constitutional freedoms, same as many other countries, but it only goes so far. You aren't free to do anything that the country has declared a crime- that's a restriction (ie. lack of freedom), usually put in place to protect other people's rights, although in my last 2 examples it's not even that.

Not even anarchy would be freedom, because then you lose your right to be protected from crime. So give it up- none of us will ever have total freedom!

Clive H, what freedoms are there in America that aren't in Britain?! If you're talking about the amount of CCTV surveillance we have here, that's to protect our freedom from muggings and rape. It's just another trade off...

this is a strategy concocted by politicians, to use fear to terrerise the inhabitants on a promis that freedom will return when we defeat the terrorist, at the same time they claim that it could last as long as hundred years, so you wont see your freedom for a hundred years, In reality this war is used as an escuse to totaly enslave the population by brow beating methods,Beware of Britain attacking itself.

None have to be, nor are any being revoked. Of course I live in the United States, where do you live?

None. Gov bungles almost everything around 9/11. They would only get a false sense of security they can't identify.

In the US we have freedom. Our rights are outlined in the Constitution. We have not been asked to give up any rights or freedoms. US citizens have not given up any rights or freedoms.
