Most on here are right.
Call them whatever you like, wheel covers, wheel trims, or hubcaps.
It's the disk that fits onto the rim of the car tire and covers the lug nuts that hold the tire rim on the axle of the car.

Hub caps are covers which are on the hub (that's the bit the wheel is attached to) and cover the hub nut.
Wheel trims cover the wheels, common mistake to call wheel trims hub caps as you can see by the answers you already have.

Your auto may not have hubcaps but 'wheel covers' instead. Some autos have neither, if it does, they cover the lug nuts on the wheels. Hubcaps cover the hub, wheel covers the hub and wheel.
