I have never used p2p, but I have heard enough to tell you that you had better stay away from them unless you have a strong security on your computer.

If it's not copyrighted then download all you want. Copyrighted stuff on the otherhand I'd say so so. People do it all the time I know but they also track the downloads I think (IP Addy) so don't download too much stuff that's copyrighted with the same IP Addy.

Viruses.. yes be carefull if your just starting out using limewire. You need to get to know the common file sizes of stuff like songs, vids etc. A good active virus protection software is a must.

lime wire is just the program Gnutella network and the sharing that goes on can be tracked down, over the last few years many people have been nabbed for downloading illegal there is a possibility id say a low posibility but it still is there if memory servers me right i think 3-4 people in newyork here got introuble im not sure if it was the Gnutella network .

you get in legal issues for downloading copyrighted materials plus you you can catch virus easily no matter how good antivirus you have
