Are you sure JP they're Nat's and not fruit flies? First: get rid of any fruit laying around or wrap it up with Saran wrap, put it in the crisper of the fridge. Than check your plants. Put the in the sunlight and watch them closely. If you see them around the plants, and I'm guessing your going to get an amount of them, look in the dirt for larva.
You might have anything from plant lice to Nat's living in the dirt.
You could try to get something from Wal-Mart but, even changing dirt is doubtful of getting rid of these pesky creatures. Without boiling the plant roots, and you know what that's going to do, you will not completely get rid of them. We had to toss out all the plants and the containers, some containers we washed real good and made sure they were insect free.
Use bagged plant soil that's been steamed.

I had a problem with fruit flies before. I had to get rid of all the fruit I had out and all of my house plants. They were still around and I found them living in a wooden plant hanger. Got rid of that, but they were still buzzing around. By accident, I found a way to get rid of them. I left a wine glass out with a napkin on top of it (my cat loves to drink out of people's glasses if they are not covered). I came back a couple of hours later to find that the fruit fly population had decreased. When I saw the wine glass, I noticed that there were a ton of dead fruit flies in it. Apparently they were attracted to the sweet smell, and flew into the cup. Because the napkin was laying over the top of the glass, they couldn't get back out.

Gnats are attracted to bananas a lot! So hide your bananas in a container instead of leaving them out on the counter. If you have indoor plants spray them lightly with a soapy water solution. You also might take your plants out of the pots and replace the soil. There are sticky paper products out there you can hang and catch them that way too.
