Did you know that the marriage certificate actually belongs to the wife? I have been informed so by registrar's & courts. You should have kept it. I canonly suggest calling you local county court and explain what has happend, they should tell you who to contact to get an offical copy and start the ball rolling. Good luck

I am assuming a solicitor is the same as an Attorney -----In the US a person can petition the courts PRO_SE and represent themselves---publish in a local paper and receive a dissolution of marriage when the spouse can not be located.
Seek out the advice for your legal problem with a local solicitor in your area. You should be able to be granted a dissolution if you're a resident of the city you reside in.

Well file for the divorce and wait for a little while or you can just tell the judge you have not seen or heard from him in five years and you do not know if he is alive or dead and maybe he will just grant you your divorce. I know here in the U.S. you can put a ad in the newspaper in your husbands last known city and let it run for three months if you do not get a response you automatically get a divorce. That is what my sister did when her husband ran off with another woman. I hope that everything works out for you men can be a** holes sometimes and do not think of their partner and how you all just need to get this over with so that you can get on with your life. Good Luck Sweetie

Sometimes, letting go seems like the easiest thing to do. But think about this: you've invested so much of your time and energy into another person; you've made a solemn promise; and you still know there's love, even if it's hiding underneath the surface. This website will show you how to save a marriage and avoid divorce, even if you're the only one trying https://tr.im/VtHvK

Write to the citizens advice bureau if you can't afford to phone them from abroad. Now, the following is a fact: after being separated for a few years (don't know how many, you'll have to find out), if the husband is not contactable or does not want to co-operate, the marriage can be annulled.

Make enquiries into the laws in the country you were married.
In Australia I was able to file for divorce after a year even though my husband wasn't around. He did respond to the paperwork but if he hadn't, and because we didn't have any children, I would have been granted the divorce after six months.

In Italy the woman/men are very open as is the rest of Europe in their marriage. I am from France(Paris) and even going topless(women) is not big deal. In North America, people are so Conservative about personal and intimate matters. I am RC in religion and that has no bearing about getting divorced.
