Helter Skelter is bretty good. Written by the prosecutor.
Manson is still a scary dude, as are his followers.
I actually was 18 during that time in the San Fernando area. We were causcuois about locking doors and knowing where family was. It was a frightening time. So was the Hillside strangler a little later than Manson.

Read the book.

I read the book a longgggggggggg time ago. OK Charlie had a commune full of hippies you know love peace drugs the whole getup. No mind you ol Charlie never did any of the murders his followers did. They first wanted to try it out and it was a director and his wife and a quest that got stabbed They didn't use guns only knives (Roman Polanski) and of course we all know the famous PIGS written in blood on the walls they didn't mean cops it was meant for the rich and famous for looking down on them. Then they went out again in the middle of the night, this time they went to Sharon Tates house she was 8 months pregnant when they killed her. One of them claimed they were about to cut out the baby before they left but didn't. Finally the cops arrested him and some of his followers the rest of the commune shaved their heads to protest the trial of Charlie. He still sits in prison today making mega bucks off of the royalties of his stories A lot of idiots think he is a God or something but the forget that even though he did not kill he ordered people to kill and he is just a guilty. well that is the short version of the Charlie Manson stories. Oh yeah he is selling his own artwork, I am sure weirdos will pay big bucks when he dies. like I said he is not a hero he is a murderer in his heart don't glorify the evil.
