"business casual dress is a middle ground between business formal wear and street wear. Examples of apparel combinations that are considered appropriate for wearing to work by some organizations that consider themselves to be using a business-casual dress code are:

for women: capris/long shorts are acceptable as casual dress and regular dress if they are "tailored" and of a dress pant material (usually not denim or heavy cotton) or a tennis shirt and trousers

for men, a combination of collared shirt (perhaps a tennis shirt instead of a dress shirt) and cotton trousers (such as khakis), shoes (such as loafers and dress sandals) with socks is generally acceptable

Neckties are generally not part of business casual dress unless worn in a very non-conservative way. The acceptability of jeans is variable and many organizations frown upon them as too casual, but will accept men who wear jeans with a sportcoat."

No sequence, no jeans. Are you getting the vibe? Company Christmas parties are a great time to show a sexier side that isn't seen in the office--I said sexy-not V cut to your navel! Popular lingerie/clothing magazines offer classy, yet pleasing to the eye clothing for just such occasions..and remember you don't have to reveal a lot to feel and look incredible...look for sophistication. Unless, of course you're company party is at the local hometown cafe...then some rethinking may be required!:) Have a great time!

Nothing sparkly or slutty, basically.

Check out the fashions on http://www.next.co.uk for ideas, most of their clothes would fall into "business casual" in my mind and would be acceptable for an xmas party.

basically it's suit but w/o a suit jacket. nicely pressed pants, a neat and clean button-down shirt and a conservative tie(men). no wool, maybe a light cotton blend in subtle colors, nothing flashy.
