Sounds like someone has deleted a file that is corrupting the functionality of Windows, or sometimes, when installing a file while another is open the same occurence can happen, or finally you could have a virus or spyware that is hindering the download. ** Please Read part 3. first** 1. Do you have the Windows XP disk itself? 2. Or did your computer come with it installed? 3. Do you have Virus Protection software? 1. If you have the disk, I would try re-installing windows. First... save any important files that you don't want to loose onto a CD DVD or other removeable media. Also make sure you can find all your disks for other programs that you'll have to re-install (graphics cards, internet access programs (access #'s and passwords), games, ect) Then pop in the disk, follow the menu prompts and be sure to select "overwrite disk". This will erase all the contents of your hard drive and re-install windows xp. After setting up your internet connection, you will be able to re-try installing sp1 and sp2. **This is a drastic method that will erase all info you have currently on your PC. So make sure you are absolutly sure you have all your info backed up (e-mail addy's, school papers, ect)** 2. Now if you don't have a disk you can always try and return your PC to a time before this problem started to occur. This will take some investigation on your part in order to determine when your computer became corrupted. To turn back Windows XP go to click on follow menu prompts to return computer to an earlier time. **Note, you will loose any data saved to your hard drive after that point in time so be sure to save any recent files to a disk. Also you must have had System restore on in order to use this function. If your PC cannot return to a time far enough back or if this fix did not work, your best option is to take your computer into a shop (like Geek Squad or Comp USA). They will charge you an insane amount just to pop in a utility disk, but at least it will be fixed. 3. If your computer has been running unprotected (without virus protection: Norton, McAffe, ect.) chances are you may have a virus. Usually, installing a virus program will purge any existing viruses. But sometimes a hard drive wipe (section 1. ) must take place. If you do have a virus program, try running a scan of the entire PC prior to following section 1. or 2. Hope this helps.

Buy an original version; you cannot do anything with a pirated one. And I wonder how you got that Service Pack 2. Home Edition of XP costs only about 100$!

It is important to have the new IExplore, since your core system runs off your IE, but bad news...when you install it...it validates your copy of XP....so you have no choice but to go around unprotected until you can manage to get a valid copy of windows...(P.S. Try Linux, you can get 'Live CD's that require no install, you can boot your computer with one in the drive, and when you take the disc out and reboot...your computer is EXACTLY how it was before you used the disc( Try http://www.slax.org) there are many others) Hope I helped :D Best of Luck!!!!

Not going to happen, sorry. Windows and IE7 do checks with Microsoft to allow them to work now. It gets even worse with Vista. Darn them for making you pay for things!
