Yes this is possible. However it won't neccesarily happen because computers become "self aware" as stated in the Termeinator films. It will happen because computers will have the will to exist and survive. If the human brain is mapped correctly, this "will" which has developed over millions of years, originating from when the first cells "decided" to split, will also be copied to the computer.
Whether to dispose of us is another matter. It would think the same way as us, so probably , YES.

Assuming machines become conscious and independent
in 2029. The sheer logistics of disposing of 6 Billion humans without damaging themselves seems unlikely. If the machines are more intelligent than humans I suspect they will treat us in the same way we treat the Rats or Roaches, just stamp on us when we inconvenience them but just ignore us when we don't. This wont be too bad for us humans and I'm sure we will soon learn not to annoy them.

I never heard about it, but I'll take what you say is true.
Computers are not alowed to have emotions, and conquer/loose is just emotional decisions. Aggressive reactions are emotional. Clean species are not rational, once biodiversity is good. Clean imperfections or select breeds are more related to some kind of technical experience.
Rational ideas are planned, developed. People must define Goal to give orders to a machine. People programming computers/virus to act as a Doomsday machines (this is quite possible), but always humans.
Main question is: Why decide to have no purpose? Which purpose? Fear of the true that we are useless and everything is just vanity?
I, robot (movie from the book) Three principles (and after, 4th principle)

Singularity may occur at some point in the future , but it is difficult to imagine as a human being. After all we only use a small proportion of our own brains at present , and we must try to expand our own thinking and cognitive processess as well , then I feel we will always be just ahead of man made intelligence.

I don't think we'll get to the Terminator stage but I do believe that computers will make decisions for us rather than against us.

an entity dose not need intelligence to be a living organism.
you can see that by looking just at people around you...but I believe electronic machines have already taken us over and so very much alive, evolving-fast and using us as a climbing frame, remember frankanstine........

My wife certainly does. So many machines in our house have made me nearly redundant already. She just needs one now that can go the bar for the drinks.
