its a Constitutional monarchy
the queen owns it all and is the supreme power, but Parliament run and administer the country.
the powers she is suppose to have can't ever really be used, she's more of a big walking advertisement for the UK - but...she's the head of some parts of the army, all the navy and all the air force...so she could...in theory. do what the king of Thailand did a while back...if needs be.

I think it has been verging on Dictatorship....democracy is an over used word which is repeated regularly to brainwash us into believing we live in a democracy. Yes we vote for a leader but there's more to a democratic society than that, once in power our leaders do as they want not what the people want. Think about the Gulf war, Asylum seekers and illegal immigrants, the protests the demonstrations it all mounted to Jack Shite, Tony Blair did what he wanted. It's all bollocks at the end of the day it doesn't make much difference, all politicians, Members of Parliament and the Judiciary are out to line their own pockets and as for the Monarchy even Charles tries to cheat the Taxman.

It replaced right into a sluggish procedure, yet i imagine it grew to develop right into a democracy in the course of the Civil conflict of the 1600's even as the Divine proper of Kings to rule replaced into challenged. for hundreds of years it replaced into believed that a King replaced into waiting to rule because God had made it so, and to question the options of the King or Queen replaced into blasphemy. Charles the first had dissatisfied Parliament through imposing hefty taxes to pay for a sparkling military. His deliver tax replaced into very unpopular, fantastically as maximum suspected the money replaced into going to the King and not in any respect new ships. to lessen a lengthy tale short, the conflict between the Royalists and the round heads ended in a win for Parliament and the lack of life of Charles I. not in any respect earlier had a King been complete in England. Oliver Cromwell took over the operating of the country less than the identify Lord Protector, yet his son replaced into not as a lot because the interest after Cromwell died, and the King's son Charles the second one replaced into invited to go back from exile in France to England to take the throne, which he did. although, Parliament had better powers now, and in spite of the actual shown actuality that they respected the Monarch (and they nonetheless do) the King or Queen of the united kingdom has very constrained powers. each and each and every of the options affecting the operating of the country are made in Parliament, whose individuals are elected through the folk. If democracy means having loose and honest elections to vote in representatives for the folk into Parliament, then the united kingdom is a democracy.

A Constituional Monarchy - the figure head Queen is supposed to have ultimate power, but she cannot rule against the democratically elected government. She has to sign (give her ascent to) acts of law passed and approved by both houses of parliament.

Its a constitutional monarchy but what I don't get is Britain doesn't have a Constitution, in matter of fact the monarchy could regain supreme power if they so wished, but they know the people wouldn't stand for it

It is a constitutional democracy with an hereditary head of state, currently the Queen.
The people of Britain are subjects of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: i.e. subjects of the monarch, rather than citizens of the kingdom.
For any (US) Americans reading this:
We are a KINGdom - our head of state is a KING (or Queen)
Wales is a PRINCipality - its nominal head is the PRINCE of Wales
The USA is a C(O)UNTry - its head of state is a !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
