My best friend and I share an apartment together and we recently took on another roommate from craigslist, and there are some things that we noticed.
He'd been going on out computer and viewing child pornography. my bestfriend and I didn't catch on at firs because he was deleting the cookies, temporary internet files, and the internet history.
Well, I guess he forgot to do it the other day, because we found several pictures of very young girls (ages 6 to 9, I'd say) posed in very provacative positions, etc.,
The only thing is, I'm not sure how to confront him and I want to call the police but I don't know what the procedure is for this kind of thing.
If I report him to the police, how would I prove it was him and would they guarantee that he went to jail?
I don't want to report him if nothing is going to happen and if my security is in jeopardy.
He doesn't seem like a violent person, but I'm afraid he may become so if confronted.
Any suggestions/answers at all?
thanks.

Also, the computer is now kept locked via password at all times.

I've also checked childsafe network to see if he is a registered sex offender and he is not. I am, however, worried that just because he HASN'T done anything yet, doesn't mean he WON'T...

P.S. There aren't any children in the house (thank god) and I haven't deleted any of his sites. He was also signed into his Yahoo! email while he was looking at the photos.

Contact the police secretly and explain the situation. Volunteer to have your house under surveillance, or to otherwise help them catch him.

Call your local police right now! They will respond with back-up. This will include the F.B.I. Cyber Crime Task Force. They will pick him up and question him and hold him till they complete a preliminary case which will include interogation of him. If he confesses then problem solved. If he denies it, they have proof. Even if he deleted cookies, history and such they will still be able to recover the files and determine keystrokes and cross reference them with like where he got them and if he was using a chat or IM program or something that would require some personal information from him. Good luck, turn the low life in. If he gets out of it tell the cops that you dont want him there and file for a temporary restraining order and make sure the cops are there when he packs his crap! Best luck to you!

Even though the computer is now locked the inappropriate pictures aren't actually gone. When you delete an item the computer just clears that space for available saving. You really should contact local law enforcment ASAP! You don't want to be accused of doing what he did or covering up for him! Just contact the police and let them know the full details!

He has does something already that being, looking at child pornography!

Call the police and don't give them any of your personal details until they tell you that it will be held confidentially.

They may secretly monitor his computer use through local network co-operation and your help.

I hope they lock him up for good - people cannot be reformed from that kind of mental issue. They are damaged and should not be allowed to be free to harm.

You don't even know if he has done any harm to anyone, he may be going out and harming children when he's not in the house. He may be planning to harm. While he is free to raom there is the possibility that he will harm - and that is enough reason for you to contact the authorities.

All the best with it.

Personally I would have someone anonymously beat the crap out of him when he's walking down the street and tell him exactly why he's being beaten. That in addition to contacting the police.

Ok... so he is doing something stupid.
It doesn't necessarily mean that he is an evil person; just straying far from acceptable behaviour in modern society.

The last thing you want to do is going and giving the police access to your computer just yet.... because since its not technically HIS computer and is in fact yours (plural), the whole plan could backfire and get you in trouble for something you have nothing to do with.

Bad an idea as it might seem... you and your friend ought to confront him about it together. He is less likely to get aggressive if you both pair up against him... ask him why he is doing it.... Try not to seem accusatory when you confront him about it, as this will get him on the defensive... Aim for concern, ideally...
If that doesn't quite seem to be working... be sure to carefully highlight that what he is doing is unnatural AND illegal, and you don't want to get anyone in trouble if its not necessary. If you possibly can, try to guilt-trip him....

If that doesn't work and he seems to be getting on the defensive, let him know straight-up that you intend to get the police to investigate it for the safety of all involved. This will probably worry him if he is doing as you claim... which while it might make being around him a risky scenario, will also make it more difficult for him to hide any potential guilt when the police do show up (if it gets that far)...

... Just remember though... Setting the dog of the law on him should only be a last resort. Things will be much better off if you and your friend can attempt to talk him out of his behaviour.

Contact a detective at your local police department. They might be able to make it appear they got info from somewhere else when they bust him.

WOW! I would pull an "Elaine Bobbit" on this SOB!
But 1st...I understand not wanting to report him & "Nothing Being Done"...so for THAT, you WILL want to be VERY careful.

I would DEF NOT confront him! You say "He Doesn't Seem Like A "Violent" Person"...but, I think I can speak for everyone when I say..."Looks" can be decieving and, if confronted, you never know?
In every "Police Dept"...there is a "Sex Crimes Unit/ Division".
OPD here but I know they ALL have them. ;)
CALL THEM IMMED! Better yet...CALL FASTER THAN THAT!

This (_!_) can go out TODAY an do something to an unsuspecting innocent lil girl or boy.
Run his name, provided he gave you his CORRECT name. (this may not be the right advice, but I would be snooping through his belongings to MAKE SURE he gave you his CORRECT name) I am assuming you are in Florida? (You mentioned "Craigslist" & I am thinking they dont extend out of Fla?) All of the below links are from the FDLE (Fla. Dept Law Enforcement) website. A VERY helpful & informative tool/ site. You can even check for "WANTED" persons there. You never know...he MAY BE wanted already? In which case, you would be killing 2 birds with one stone. ;)
This is a very SERIOUS situation & if you act QUICK...you can save a child...you can save some children!

I am assuming your roomie & yourself have NO children? I HOPE not! At least while HE is there, under your roof.

Maybe this "Pure Nasty Excuse Of A Male" has never DONE anything to a child...lets HOPE & PRAY for this to be true, unfortunately, I have NO DOUBT that it is inevitable! One thing usually leads to another.

We NEED to STOP this Nasty SOB! YESTERDAY!
You ARE in Florida...yes? Because the links I am sending you are here in Fla.

You took him in from "Craigslist", so...I am guessing this means you basically didnt know him from a "Can~Of~Paint? Not kewl. If you go to the Court House...you can look up ANYONE ahead of time. (ex: before you take on your next roomie) I am in Orlando, Fla & they have that here. Like if someone wants to date a dude/ chick...they can go to the courthouse & do a search. While I personally have NOT done this (tho should have on NUMEROUS occassions LOL) I KNOW this to be true. As I understand it...it is "Public Record". ;)

PS: PLEASE be VERY cautious! This includes when your talking to your best friend/ roommate about this SOB! (so he dont accidently overhear you)
And again...ACT QUICKLY!!! PLEASE!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

I WISH YOU BOTH THE BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!
