We're aways being told that the courts and prisons are over flowing .So how would it be if we had floggings for minor crimes .It could be done on mass once a week .And for added entertainment.Carried out at half time at football matches.do you think this could be a good thing

Yeah, most prisons now are better than the homes of those criminals.

You make a point...but what if the person being flogged turns out to be innocent or was arrested due to an unfair law? Then we would have gotten enjoyment out of the public humiliation and suffering of someone who truly didn't deserve it. And what about people who break petty laws that are subject to being changed?

Up until a few years ago, it was illegal in several states to perform any sexual acts that didn't lead to a child being concieved (Sodomy laws). Here in the state of Florida, up until a couple of years ago, it was illegal to defend oneself against an attacker. Would it have been right to flog people who got arrested for perfoming such acts with their own spouse? Would it have been right to flog a rape victim for hitting the man who was raping her?

I'm all for the public humiliation and torture of people who deserve it, who are guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt. (Guess I'm still a little semi-barbaric.) I'd love to see convicted rapists and child molesters publically flogged. Then again, those aren't minor crimes.

Perhaps the real solution would be to go over the laws and throw out antiquated and useless laws. Or, better yet, legalize drugs and prostitution. Not only would that cause these activities to be government regulated and provide billions of dollars in taxes, it would cause the prison population would drop drastically, as those are the petty crimes most people get locked up for.

You think hurting people is the answer to minor crime? And turning it into an entertainment segment of a television program? Wrong.

Have you not noticed that when a person is hit he turns and hits the hitter. The hitter hits again and that's how a war starts.

Education is the best answer for the majority of these situations.

There are a few people who do not have the gene that helps them understand right from wrong. They should be in the prisons. But to flog or cane someone for any reason is totally inappropriate.

Jon B has a great idea. Not only does the offender get flogged but we get entertained at the same time. We could have the floggings in an arena, just like when the Romans fed Christians to the lions. this is a really exciting idea!

Hi LLamedos
My wife is disabled and she has a scooter that we chain to the wall outside our house because we do not have a container to put it in. It is covered with a tarpaulin to keep the weather off it, some petty bastard stole the tarp. they could have bought a new one for 8 fekin quid. As far as I'm concerned they deserve a bit of public humiliation and the incredible pain of a public birching, with my wife swinging the birch. She might not be able to walk far, but theres nothing wrong with her upper body strength.

It shouldnt be done for entertainment value although, Im sure many of us would secretly be pleased that certain people were made to suffer for their crimes, and I think it would definitely act as a deterrent, after all going to prison is often a badge of honour for some people

No, really those who would like it will be saddists. there is also be the project of flying body fluids. And till someone comes up with a thanks to make constructive someone is fairly to blame....what in case you've been arrested then convicted of a criminal offense you probably did not do although the data factors to you? would you want to be flogged for a persons'' crime?

i dont think they ought to be public but they should bring back the birch for some offenders.

the yobs might not be so keen to collect a flogging as they are to collect an ASBO

Yes, especially for graffiti offenders and things like that. The liberals would scream out about it, but they should be forced to watch.

Why not make a game show out of it?? There could be spot prizes and audience participation. Great fun.
