The other answerers are incorrect. The basic rate is 39c for the first ounce, but there is a somewhat obscure provision that a letter under one ounce that is oversized needs an extra 13c in postage - total 52c. See the rate calculator at http://www.usps.com

Domestic US First Class is $.39 for the first ounce, and $.24 for each additional. I don't know how many stamps that is, usually one, but could be up to 39.

Well it depends on where your are sending the envelope to, how you are sending it e.g. registered, insured, certified, return receipt or delivery conformation e.t.c or how soon you want it there e.g. express mail. If not it will cost you exactly .39 cents for it to travel any where in the USA and to us bases located in the AE, AP and AA zones.
