Many attempts were made to discourage Brashear and to make him want to drop out. Firehose "education", social rejection, racial insults, and undesirable treatment with treatment as an undesirable by his peers and instructors were not enough. Even the final performance test was rigged to make it seemingly impossible to complete. But Brashear did at the risk of his own life..

what happened next?

thanks in advance =)

In the movie, Deniro's character makes sure he becomes a diver and pays the price for doing so. As brashear rises to the rank of cheif diver Deniro's character gets busted in rank and forcedinto semi-retirement also due to the fact his wife keeps sleeping around. In a freak accident Brashears leg gets cut off at the knee and he is expected to retire. He chooses to apply for reenstatement with a prosthetic leg. His old commander comes out of his funk to help Brashear train for the test. They make brasher walk ten steps in a new 200+ pound diving suit. He does it and is reinstated. He makes it to Master chief as Deniro walks off into the sunset, so to speak.

In real life, the story continue that brashear's story gets aired on sixty minutes and eventually someone turns it into the screenplay Men of Honor. It is a true story but the event that cost brashear his leg is not the event in the movie. Actually the event in the movie is the event covered on Sixty Minutes. That was what made it so spectacular. His famous rescue came after he lost his leg not before.

Carl Brashear was allowed to be re-enstated as a full navy diver. He went on to acheive the highest that a navy enlisted man could reach and that was Master Chief Navy Diver. It was a great accomplishment and it was another first in American history for a African-American to accomplish during that time in history.

Well I assume that he was treated for hypothermia and he went on to be a diver. And the way it sounds is that he was just a stand by diver. He then waited and with patience he was able to get a posting as a primary diver. He did it because 'they' said he couldn't have it.
