It's around the same time as Christmas, although the exact date varies because the Jewish calendar doesn't match up precisely with the western one.

In recent years it's become normal to buy gifts - some families buy small gifts for each of the eight days of the festival - but this is really only because of the influence of Christmas, it's not a traditional thing to do. There is an older tradition of giving money (chanukah geld) or, more recently, chocolate coins.

It's generally around December and the date varies from year to year, and it involves buying gifts the same as Christmas.

The holiday lasts for 8 days, and a candle is lit each day in a candle holder called a "menorrah" and then on the eigtth day all 8 candles are burning.
