But I get paid really good money. This is the first time I haven't had to struggle to pay bills and it feels nice. But I work at the front desk of a high class hotel and the guests are very demanding and are @ssholes. Today this guy yelled at me and I told him to calm down so I could think and he wouldn't shut up. I went into the back to find my mgr for help and she was standing there watching a photocopier and said she was busy. My co-worker was finally free so she helped me and then the guests friend started bi+ching about something. I was getting really pissed off so I left and took a walk outside which made me madder cuz some bums were harrassing me for money. I can't stand stupid people anymore but customer service is all I know. I've been doing it since I was 15 (I'm 23 now) I hate going to work now. I dunno what to do?

First thing is the job a good job except for the occasional jerks you have to deal with? Do you like the people you are working with? It the pay and benefits good? Do you and your supervisor get along as a rule? Ask yourself these questions before you do anything rash.
As for dealing with the occasional jerk! The person might not be a jerk at all. They might be really having bad troubles causing them to act like they are jerks and a***holes.
Examples: They might have someone like their mother, father, son, daughter in the hospital not excepted to live. They might be under a lot of pressure to make a deadline on a job or their company face stiff penalties. They might be under pressure of losing their job if they don't get the deal.
Just be polite and ask them if there is anything wrong and if there is anything you can do to help them because they seem so upset.
THEN WHEN THEY LEAVE:
You can always say a silent little prayer something like this: Please Lord don't ever let me get like that person. I don't care how rich I get. Even if you are an atheist. It helps.

That's a tough one. I think you're going to run into jerks in ANY customer service job. It would be easy for me to say your happiness is more important than money, but this is the real world and you need money. Don't quit right now-- you need to have a job so just deal with it as best you can for a while, but examine what you REALLY want to do and train or go to school for it. It will take time, but so what?

If you are in customer service, you are going to have to deal with people who are unpleasant and demanding and seem as if they were put on this earth to drive you crazy.

I have been in various customer service based jobs on a part time basis for many years. My main occupation has been in special education and special needs. I have said many times that I use my college degrees and psychology background to it's fullest extent in the customer service jobs which I have done.

You have to decide if your paycheck is the most important part of your life. It is great to be able to pay your bills without struggling; but is that the most important thing in your life?

You are on an open forem asking for advice. You have to decide if you can afford to spend your life in a work situation that makes you angry and upset.

There has been a lot of research done proving that when people are unhappy and stressed in their working hours; this does have a great deal of impact on their health and life outside of work.

You must have some other choices you could make for a career. Think about things that you enjoy doing. If you are only 23 and have been working in customer service for eight years; and "hate stupid people," you really need to make a change.

You can look for other jobs, while you are employed at the present one or even consider going to take courses in another field of interest in order to make the changes you need to make.

You really do not want to be stuck in a job that you hate going to, it will not get any better and will be more and more difficult to drag yourself to work everyday. I have been in a similar situation a couple of times in my life, although I was older when it happened to me; and used both incidences to change my life.

Both times I had to make a leap of faith, and both times I have improved my life, lowered my stress, improved my health and kept my bills paid. The last time this happened was about four years ago, and when it was a very negative experience just getting into my car to drive to work in the morning; I knew it was time for a change.

Take a deep breath, think about what you really want to do and go for it. The day that you are able to tender your resignation at your current job, you will feel a great weight lift off of your shoulders. Best of luck to you and have a good day. Remember the saying "It's hard to soar with the eagles when you are working with turkeys."

If I were on your position I will quit, getting good salary will not compensate my sanity. I did quit a lots of job even good one because I was not happy. Finally I was able to find what I really want, working as an employee was not for me. So I opened my own business and here I am happy and content.

Save as much money as you can and try to get a small business going of your own. That is what most people need to do. I've been in a bit of a rut, myself for quite a while now.

You mentioned that you've been doing this for 8 years now, so i can't say that you'll eventually get used to it.

If your job is making you unhappy, then you should resign. No amount of money is worth the stress that you're going through.

this is why you get paid good money.... to deal with people like that. Its what makes you more valuable than someone who cannot deal with it.. Your best bet.... think of everyone's complaint as a commission that ends up being your paycheck :)
