The best thing that you can do with this is to do a system restore.
This is of cause providing that you can still find system restore it should be %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe.

The system restore should be run for the last time the system was running correctly.

It might take some time, You might loose some data but at least you will not have to reformat.

Have you downloaded the most up to date virus definitions? If not go into file hippo website, download and run AVG.

Also have you looked in your recycle bin, it is possible that the items may be in there.
After this it may be worth downloading and running ccleaner from the file hippo website
you could try simply removing and reinstalling messenger
Description of Svchost.exe in Windows XP

Each instance of Svchost process [you see in Task Manager] launches a list of services. Multiple instances of Svchost.exe can run at the same time. Four or five instances of svchost.exe is normal. If you want to see what services are run by each Svchost process:

For XP Professional, using the Tasklist command:

*

Click Start, Run and type cmd
*

Type tasklist /svc >c:\taskList.txt

The taskList.txt will contain the services list (launched by each Svchost process). Windows XP Home does not have tasklist.exe. See also Description of Svchost.exe in Windows XP

WARNING: There are viruses circulating in the internet which uses the same name as svchost.exe. The legit svchost.exe will be present in the %Windir%\System32 folder.

To spot the invalid ones, use an Anti-Virus software. Windows Task Manager does not list the full path of the file. In this case, you may use Process Explorer from Sysinternals, which gives complete command over the processes.

These two viruses copies svchost.exe to the system

Short of reinstalling, which I would ask you to do last, I must qualify my answer with a few questions you must answer to yourself before going ahead with my solution.

First try to do a System Restore. As this will usually reset any Registry changes that alter needed items like Calc.exe and Run. Also is there Anti-virus software on your machine? / Is it up-to-date? Also do you have other helpful programs like Spy-ware removal tools? Can you still get on the net, if no to above questions?

If you have any of the above programs, run them. If not go and get them. I would trust only reliable places like PC World, or Symantec in order to know the source of the files you need to down-load and install.

I would use Spy-Bot Search and Destroy, and then AdAware SE, as both are free. I also would check out Symantec's site to use their (Virus Checking Tool) support tools.

If all of this doesn't return your computer to normal then reinstall is about your only other option.

To access Run if it is still loaded when you can't see it: Type(hold down) Windows Key and R at the same time

command similar to run is

hold start key (key is their in between ctrl and alt) in key board and type R
if u are using windows xp then u can restore your sys to a old date(on which day it was working fine)
u can add accessories using add/remove programs
u uninstall yahoo messanger and reinstall yahoo messanger
go to dos prompt and del svhost.exe
still not working change the attribute of the file from read only
and delete
command
attrib -r svhost.exe
else right click on file select properties then uncheck read only
defrag your disk
cleanup your disk
delete unwanted files

scan ur computer with good anti virus for virus, worm, trojan, spyware etc.
use microsoft.com's defender for spy

if none of these work, just format your hard disk and reinstall.

if this also does not work, then remove ur cpu and throw your hard disk outside and get a new hard disk.

U got virus,
go to www.nod32.com

then download antivirus frm this site. It really works but keep it updating. SVHOST.EXE and all others are removed from this. This is really good one. Just try it. All the best.

SVCHOST.EXE cannnot be removed so easily because it is a system file. You have been infected by w32.blaster worm. Try out these two patches
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.welchia.worm.removal.tool.html
and patch : http://www.rcub.bg.ac.yu/Antivirus/Q815021_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe
If these dont help you out of your problem, then the best solution is to format your hard disk and load the OS again. Be careful not to go online without an antivirus because you will get infected again.
