5 x _ - 28 = 12 + 3 x _

Let the first blank be Y and th second blank be X

Then 5Y - 28 = 12 + 3X
ie 5Y = 3X + 40
ie Y = 3/5 X + 8

So ANY ordered pair on this line will obey the rule

Eg when X = 5 Y = 11

When X = 20 Y = 20

When X = - 15 Y = -1

The solutions are infinite in number but all obey the set rule that the first blank = 3/5 of second blank + 8

Let 'a' be the missing value, then
5 xa - 28 = 12 + 3 x a
=>5a - 28 = 12 + 3a
=>5a - 3a = 12 + 28
=>2a = 40
=>a = 40/2
=>a = 20

I hope that answers your questions. All the best.

(5xA)-28=12+(3xB)
5A-28+28=3B+12+28
5a=3b+30
5a=3b+(5x6)
if a=9, 3b+12=45-28
3b=5
if a=0, 3b=-40
if b=0, 5a=40, a=8

proof: 5x8-28=12+3x0
40-28=12

in other words a=8 and b=0

first add 28 to both sides
5 x _-28+28 = 12+28+3 x ___
5 x _ = 40 + 3 x _
Subtract 3x__ from both sides
5x__ - 3x__ = 40 +3x___-3x___
2x__ = 40
divide both sides by 2
x = ____________ hehehehehehehe you have to do it
